Kaylee and Eli : Engaged!
Posted on October 29, 2009
I met Kaylee and Eli in their hometown of Pittsburgh to shoot a couple of engagement photos. Unfortunately the weather sucked (and I did get physically struck by a car, but ignorant drivers on their cell phones are a rant for another day
) … but in spite of that, it didn’t stop them from making it an awesome shoot all the same!
As a photographer, it’s generally assumed that I’ll pose people for portraits – a little “turn this way, look over there” is expected. I loved that Kaylee and Eli took pictures naturally and that their genuine and fun personalities just shine through! Of course it helps that they picked out some great settings as well.
And now, without further adieu, a few of my favorites:

Did I mention the *great* settings?

I absolutely love this shot for three reasons. First, I was lamenting that there were no falling leaves, so Eli just grabs a handful off of the ground and throws them in the air. Second, and funnier than the effect, was that a couple leaves just came to a rest on their heads. Third and finally, you have to love Kaylee’s laugh

Loved shooting with you both, Kaylee and Eli, and thanks for a great evening in Pittsburgh! I can’t wait to work with you both on your big day together!

Heidi and Brett : Married!
Posted on October 29, 2009
I was super excited to make the drive to Michigan for Heidi and Brett’s wedding. Though the weather was less than ideal (cold and rainy) their beautiful and intimate wedding at the St. John’s Inn in Plymouth did not disappoint! It was impossible to miss the sincere yet easygoing emotion and joy the bride and groom shared with each other and their guests.
Heidi was one of the most relaxed, chill brides I have ever met. Here she is getting ready, just as I met her and her bridesmaids, Andrea and Jackie:

And their stylists. Yes, their stylists.
I would pay money to watch these guys perform at a comedy club. The pictures don’t begin to do their personalities justice, but they were really that funny.

And meet Brett … and his brother Clint.

Heidi made it a point to ask me if I would be sure to get pictures of Brett as she walked down the aisle. I asked Brett beforehand if he thought he would cry, and he just smiled and said “oh yeah.” To Brett and grooms everywhere who know they are the luckiest man in the world … and aren’t afraid to show it:

I love the emotion:

Heidi and Brett were married in the beautiful chapel.

When Heidi told me there would be a “log cutting” ceremony, I immediately thought “how cool!” As I understand it, this is a German tradition that symbolizes the couple’s first challenge together as husband and wife.

Looks like they are in for a successful marriage

After that, we headed out for a few portraits before the cold got the best of us. Didn’t stop Heidi and Brett from looking awesome though:

And a short time later, a first dance:

Heidi’s flair for the artistic was evident, particularly throughout the reception …

The food was phenomenal – a sample of one of many desserts …

I’m sorry … I couldn’t help myself
Too funny!

And then the party got started …

A future photographer?

This guy had moves on top of moves. Occasionally he’d step out on the dance floor and it was almost as if all eyes on the room were on him. You’d really need a video to appreciate it, but he got some serious applause.

As Heidi and Brett hail from the Big Apple, everyone circled up for a ”New York, New York” finale …

Thank you, Heidi and Brett, for allowing me to share in and help capture your wedding day memories! You, your family and friends were a blast to meet and work with!

Jenn and Jake : Engaged!
Posted on October 14, 2009
I really enjoyed shooting with Jenn and Jake because, well, they like to laugh together. A lot. These two share an easygoing intimacy that is impossible to miss. Several times while trying to shoot a little bit more of a “serious” look, it was all Jenn could do to keep a straight face.
So we shot around for a few in the Arena district this past Sunday and these are a few of my faves:

Jake proposed to Jenn under this arch and I suggested a “re-enactment.” As he got down on one knee, someone driving by yelled out “don’t do it, man!” Obviously a happily married guy himself

Thank you, Jenn and Jake, for a great afternoon and I can’t wait to celebrate your big day with you both!

Steven : Class of 2010!
Posted on October 12, 2009
Steven is a senior this year at Beavercreek and I had the opportunity to shoot a few photos with him and then with his mother Suzanne (my wife’s cousin), sister and brother as well. We had a great time shooting in and around the Dublin/Powell area for a few hours.
I don’t think I can emphasize enough what a genuine, easygoing personality this guy has! And now, a few of my favs:

Major League Gamers … love it.

Possibly one of my all-time favorite portraits:

Steven, best of luck to you in your senior year and beyond – thanks for letting me capture a few to commemorate your accomplishments!

Trillion and Barrett : Engaged!
Posted on October 5, 2009
While there is a lot that is said about love, the words “genuine,” “humble” and “selfless” are adjectives that don’t always get a lot of emphasis. But they are words that kept springing to my mind within moments of meeting Trillion and Barrett and observing the way that they speak and act toward each other. These are intimate expressions not easily captured by a photographer and his camera, but I hope that these images hint at these qualities – and so many more – that make up the love that these two share.
We kicked off the shoot at Trillion’s parents’ house, where Barrett proposed to her. I could spend days shooting here. Seriously.

And then we took it to the Whetstone Park of Roses …

And what says love, if not a train track?

Thank you, Trillion and Barrett, for an awesome afternoon! Can’t wait for your wedding day!
